Acne
is a chronic skin disorder which is mainly caused by excess
sebum produced by the sebaceous glands. Extra oil on the
skin pores will lead to the growth of bacteria. When the
white
blood cells act to kill the bacteria, it will
subsequently lead to natural inflammation and the onset of
acne. Besides excessive sebum production, there are other
factors which may also trigger acne such as hormonal
imbalances, stress, unhealthy lifestyle and naturally oily
skin.
Until today, medical science has yet to find any specific
treatment for a complete acne cure. However, there are various types of acne
treatment and medication available in the market for a temporary relief.
Besides modern medicines, you may also exercise the use of various home
remedies for your acne problem.
Here are a few suggested home
remedies for acne:
Apple Cider Vinegar:
Dilute 1 tbsp of vinegar with 4 tbsp of water. Apply the diluted
vinegar to the acne area with cotton. Rinse of the vinegar after 10 minutes.
Do this 3 times a day. For severe acne, apply and left over night and rinse
in the next morning. For more severe cases, reduce the vinegar-water ratio
to 1:3 for a stronger solution. But, the stronger solution must be rinsed
off after 10 minutes. Apple Cider Vinegar helps in absorbing excessive oil
and balancing the pH level of the skin.
Tea Tree Oil:
Tea tree oil has anti-bacterial properties. Apply the oil on acne areas
during bedtime and rinse off the next morning. It
helps in reducing inflammation due to acne. Taking Vitamin E supplement
while using tea tree oil not only heals the blemishes but also cure scar
tissues.
Potato Poultice:
Apply grated potato poultice on the acne area overnight (it will turn black)
and wash off in the next morning. The potato starch draws the acne out
making it heals faster or not becoming worse.
Fruits and Herbs: Various fruits and
herbs are also useful in treating acne.
The basic principle for herbal home remedies is to apply them on acne
infected areas for some minutes and clean. You will notice the difference of
your skin condition after some days.
Baking Soda Paste:
Mix baking soda with water to make a paste. Apply to the face for 15
minutes and then rinse off. Then, put on some light moisturizer. It absorbs
the excess oil on the face and the blemishes will heal faster.
Benzoyl Peroxide:
This topical treatment works wonders for many mild acne patients. Most of over-the-counter
acne medications, either in form of lotion, soap, gel or cream, contain benzoyl
peroxide.
Ice Cubes:
Wash your faces with ice cubes for 10 minutes. This relieves the pain of inflammation
and prevents the acne-causing bacteria from penetrating into
the skin pores.
Mild Soap:
Wash your face gently
2 times a day (morning and evening)
using a
mild soap (e.g. baby soap) and a clean washcloth to remove skin oil. Wash
and rinse with warm water first, then submerge your face in cold water to
close up the pores to prevent bacteria from entering. Avoid touching your
face with your hands while washing and also throughout the day.
Vitamin Supplements:
Various vitamins have been found useful in treating acne.
