Pink Eye Home Remedies

Pink eye is an inflammation of eye, which is an acute conjunctivitis, resulted in redness in the eyelids and also eyeball. It might happen due to too much stress in the eyes' small nerves, but usually it is caused by both viral and bacterial infections. This eye ailment is airborne and contagious, thus covering the infected eye with dark eyeglass will help reducing the transmission of bacteria.

Here are several pink eye home remedies that you may try:

Salt Water: Boil water and put aside to let it become warm before adding some salt. Stir to dilute it. Soak some cotton balls in the warm salt water and let it there until temperature of the solution reaches the normal room temperature. Then, take one of the wet cotton balls and put on top of your closed infected eye with you lying down and your face is upward. Let it there for 5 minutes. This process will hurt a bit as the salted water will go into your eye but this will help killing the bacteria. This remedy is considered among the most effective yet simple pink eye home remedies.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Put 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (with the mother enzymes or it might not work) into a glass of warm water. Use the solution to wash your infected eye once every hour. It might hurt but is effective in curing pink eyes.

Dried Calendula/Chamomile: Put 2 tablespoons of dried calendula/ chamomile in a cup of hot water and steep for one hour with cover on. Dip a cotton ball in the cool flower tea and apply a few drops into your eye and cover with the cotton for 10 minutes. This remedy will soothe the sore eye without stinging feelings.

Black Tea Bag-Honey: Add some honey to a glass of boiled water and mix, and then soak in a tea bag. Let the tea bag cools down and then place on your closed painful eye. You may have hurt, discomfort and sticky feelings around your eye but hold on for 5 minutes. After that, rinse it off. Repeat this process for 2 consecutive days. This will make you feel better and prevent further infections.

Fresh Lemon: Squeeze a few drops of fresh lemon juice into warm water. Apply onto your eye using a paper towel. Use different piece for different eye to avoid spreading of bacteria. It will sting for seconds but the infection will clear up within 1 or 2 days.

Coffee: Put some coffee in a little of boiled water and let it cools. Then, drop some onto your eye like eye drop. The dryness feeling on your eye tissue is normal. Rinse off with water after a few minutes and apply enough eye drops to ease the dryness.

Aloe Vera: Juice extracted from fresh Aloe Vera plant contains antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties and can be used to treat eye infections. Repeat throughout the day and also overnight.

Breast Milk: Breast milk is believed to be able to cure pink eye infections in babies as it contains natural antibodies. Use a sterilized dropper to drop some milk into the eye, repeat this every couple of hours.
